Freeforms
A freeform is a roleplaying game, usually systemless, with 10
or more players and 2 or more GMs.
Freeforms often focus on the social or political interaction of the characters
rather than on a plot-line predetermined by the tournament writer. In a well-written
freeform, characters have multiple story threads (often secret) connecting them
to other characters. The plot is developed through interactions between characters,
with the GMs providing a frame of reference, keeping the intrigues on the boil
and sometimes providing simple game mechanics.
It is essential that you turn up for freeform sessions on time, as one latecomer
will hold up the entire group. Each blurb lists the number of sessions, the
number of players in the freeform and the game system used (more or less) or
the genre (style and focus).
All freeform tournaments are individual entry.
Available session times for each tournament are shown on the entry form timetable.
You are welcome - actually, enthusiastically encouraged - to play freeforms
in costume, but it isn't compulsory.
Some tournament organisers may be willing to 'pre-cast' some of their freeform
(that is, assign characters to players prior to the convention to help costume
selection). However, reserving a character in a freeform does not reserve a
place in the freeform. You should pre-register as early as possible, before
all the places are filled.

University of California - Los Angeles Campus Internal Memo To: All Students, Parapsychology Department, UCLA From: Professor Cameron Winters, Parapsychology Department, UCLA. Justum Pretium Organised by |

Rome, 287 I hurried after my master - it does not do for a doctor to be tardy in response to a rich man's summons, he may arrive to find both patient and patron bled dry by his speedy competitors. We arrived at the gates of a great house, and as we did not hear any sign of boisterous medical disagreement from within, we took a moment to catch our breath. My master, now his usual composed and dignified self, knocked at the gate, and we were led into the sick room. A girl lay on the bed, white as chalk, and perhaps fortunately unconscious. Even an apprentice such as myself could easily see why the household had sent for Orestes of Alexandria and no other! |

"I'm sorry, but there just isn't any other way to tell you. The Shadows have returned. Charlotte Bradbury, Sally Carter, Bradley Bennett and his poor dead brother Michael – these four innocents have felt their wrath. Remember the pact we made fifteen years ago, after winning the battle against the Darkness? Never would another child suffer as we sufferer the hellish attacks of the monsters of the Closetland, as long as we were alive to stop them. If we are to keep our promise and defeat them again, we must return together to the world of Childhood Terror." A Horror freeform, based in the "Little Fears" universe. |

The Legends of

Organised by |

As the glorious sun shines on the peaceful realm of Earthstone, darkness falls upon a distant realm of Evil. Within this darkness, the hellish Warpspawn and their slaves, the hideous hordes of Garnresh, stir restlessly plotting and scheming future triumphs for their kind. What chaos shall transpire? While this freeform uses the continuing story line of the other Earthstone games, knowledge of these games is irrelevant. No Heir for the Throne of Amber Organised by |
|||||||||||||||||
|
The King of Amber is dying... Unfortunately, Amber has no laws to govern the right of succession, so all of Oberon's children are gathered today to determine an heir. In a family like this, having all of these relatives under one roof is probably a bad thing!
"No Heir for the Throne of Amber" involves politics, Machiavellian scheming, lies, murder, bribery, alliances and betrayals. Costumes for the event are recommended, but not essential. Those choosing to wear costumes should contact AJ for advice. Knowledge of Roger Zelazny's books is not required, but very much recommended to give you a feel for the game. Previously run at Brisbane Maelstrom 1999, and Conquest 2000 and is being rerun by request. Contact AJ - aj.jones@hitpoint.com.au or 0419 253 474 |

The Russian Egg Organised by |
|||||||||||||||||
|
1st August, 1920 The egg was, my dear, not an egg at all, but a construction of pearls and brilliant enamel. It glittered so prettily in the sunlight, and when opened played a song of shining silver. You will think me strange, but I must tell you I really imagined I could smell frost and pine while it played - the scent of Christmas in an Easter egg! But then others reacted oddly to this beautiful toy too, and I cannot imagine how your old friend came to possess it. So much trouble occurred over so small an object! This game is a sequel to The Angel of Babylon, which was run at Arcarnacon 2003, however the stories are independent, and it is not at all necessary to have played the previous game to play this one. |

Stargate:SG1 GRUNTS World Of Opportunity Organised by And Those Not Moving Fast Enough When I Get The Stun Gun |
|||||||||||||||||
|
Hammond walked into the dialing room and looked toward the shimmering Stargate. He had had many meetings with many aliens while in charge of Stargate Command, this one would be a strange one, even by the usual standards.The General could understand the need for the meeting, he just wished for once one of these things could be held at someone else’s place, why always here? What the hell was an Orc anyway? During what seemed a normal mission SG:1 found a thriving world dominated by many subspecies of humans, massive animal life, and large hulking combat trained marines...they call them selves Orc Marines. Their planet has something amazing, dozens of Stargates, interdimentional active Stargates, at once. A massive resource, one that has become known to the Azguard, the Tokra and the Gauold (O’Neill was...upset about that). A meeting was decided by a majority (O’Neill: SAY WHAT?!?) vote to have a meeting (O’Neill was...upset about that too) about what to do about this amazing discovery. Stargate Command is about to have guests...a lot of them. Knowing about Stargate SG-1 will help. This Freeform will be a one session freeform for up to 20 players set in Stargate Command. Various races will be represented. Any attempt at uniforms would help with the atmosphere. Contact Tarquin at rabbitldr@optusnet.com.au |
